Counseling Services can assist active duty members and their families cope with personal and family concerns. Domestic Violence/Abuse can be very destructive to the family and affect Unit Readiness. Families are encouraged to seek help at the earliest signs of abuse and/or violence.
What is Domestic Violence?
A pattern of coercive behavior used to establish power and control over another person, usually an intimate partner. It happens when one person believes they are entitled to control another and can include physical, psychological, emotional, verbal, sexual, and/or economic abuse.
Victim advocates are available to offer support services to victims of domestic abuse. They advocate for victim’s rights and needs, while informing them of reporting options, assisting them with staying safe, serving as a liaison between the victim and Command, and offering continued support. Victim assistance is also available through the law enforcement, medical and legal process.

How to report Domestic Violence
- Restricted Reporting: Intended for adult victims of domestic violence/abuse who want to receive advocacy and counseling services without command or law enforcement being notified of incident.
- Active duty and civilian victims of domestic violence/abuse can make a “restricted” report through the following avenues ONLY:
- Victim Advocates
- Chaplains (privilege)
- Counseling Services personnelSome exceptions may apply, please consult with your local victim advocate for additional information.
- A report of Domestic Violence can start off as “RESTRICTED” and later reclassify as unrestricted per victim’s request
- Unit Victim Advocates (UVA) and Family Readiness Officers (FRO) ARE mandated reporters of domestic violence/abuse
- Unrestricted Reporting is intended for victims of domestic violence/abuse who want to pursue an official investigation of an incident via PMO/law enforcement, Chain of Command, Chaplain or Family Advocacy Program (FAP).
