101 Days of Summer Drug Free Challenge

The 2012 annual challenge kicks off mid-May!  Win money for Unit rec funds and participate in summer-long competitions and events raising substance abuse awareness, educate service members about recreational safety, promote responsible alcohol use and offer fun health alternatives.  Packet and registration information available for download here ( pdf 2mb ).  For more info, call (760) 763-3794.

Special Events

Health and Fitness Fair - Sat, May 19, 2012, 10am-2pm. Celebrate Healthy Living at the new Marine Corps Exchange (MCX) with the Health and Fitness Fair! Body fat testing, Cholesterol Screening, Stress Management, Injury Prevention, Nutrition, Fitness Booths, Rock Climbing Wall, Jump House and more! If you're feeling hard "corps" take the TRX Challenge! Successfully complete two or more exercises and be entered to win a TRX Force Kit and $50 MCX gift card. Health Promotion Nine Elements
Marine Corps Order P1700.29 identifies nine elements of health in which every Marine is required to receive annual training:

  • Injury Prevention
  • Nutrition
  • Stress Management
  • Suicide Awareness
  • Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention & Control
  • Hypertension Education & Control
  • STD & HIV Transmission Prevention

Fitness Centers
The professionally trained staff provides a wide variety of programs and services. The Semper Fit Paige Fieldhouse is one of the largest in the Marine Corps. There are 13 fitness centers on base, each offering it’s own program and targeting specific needs.

Classes


Train The Trainer ( pdf 225k )
A 4-day class designed to give S-3 offices information they need to promote health within their units. A binder of presentations, a CD and information on the Semper Fit 9 Elements is provided.  The follow are the dates for 2012:

  • Jan 24-27
  • Apr 24-27
  • Aug 14-17
  • Oct 16-19

Nutrition 101 ( PFH pdf 119k ) (21 Area pdf 119k )
First Wed of each month at the Paige Fieldhouse classroom, bldg 1110, Mainside, 21 Area Single Marine Program Rec Center, bldg 21704 Del Mar and 53 Area Fitness Center, bldg 53303,Camp Horno.  A FREE 1 hour class to help weight loss and learn to eat healthy.  This is a great class if you need to lose weight, you’re on the BCP program or just want to learn how to eat healthy. Seating is first come first serve. Limited seating is available.

Combat Conditioning Courses ( pdf 258k )
There are several programs and resources to assist active duty personnel, and/or their unit to physically prepare for these requirements at Camp Pendleton, including unit specialized combat training classes.

Nutrition and Fitness for BCP
One-Day course focusing on the fundamentals of eating and training to lose weight. Participants will learn how to help their BCP Marines with planning their diet and exercise program for life-long weight loss. Topics will include nutrient needs, healthy weight loss, fitness for weight loss, exercise and diet myths, supplements, and practical sessions. A certificate of completion will be given to all participants. Bring PT Gear for a workout. Lunch on your own. 2012 Schedule:

SIDNE-Experience Impaired Driving
Simulated-Impaired Driving Experience Sidne is a go-cart that simulates impaired driving. This unit can be brought to you all you need is a clear parade deck and a block of time. For more details call (760) 763-3794

Tobacco Cessation Classes
Tue, Wed and Thu 
Classes provide the tools for quitting and remain smoke-free. Free pharmaceutical agents are provided. Available to active duty personnel, family members, retirees & MCCS employees.
