Q: Who is eligible for the Exceptional Family Member Program?

A: A family member who is enrolled In DEERS and may require special medical or emotional services based on chronic physical, intellectual or emotional needs.

Q: How do I enroll in the EFMP?

A: By calling one of our two EFMP offices – Mainside (760) 725-5363 or San Onofre (760) 763-0868. Families who are interested in EFMP support  will be assigned a case worker to assist with the enrollment process and all available community and installation resources to facilitate services and continuity of care for the family.

Q: What are some of the benefits of enrolling in the EFMP?

A:  We have up to 40 hours of respite care per month, support groups, parent workshops, assistance with finding local resources, as well as TriCare ECHO enrollment assistance.

Q: What does the ECHO (Extended Care Health Options) program provide?

A: ECHO provides additional medical coverage from TriCare (conus only) such as:  special education, durable equipment and rehabilitation care.  More information is available about the eligibility at www.tricare.mil/echo.  To enroll in ECHO or be screened for eligibility - fax completed DD2792 and DD2792-1 to (866) 269-5758.

Q: Are families enrolled in the EFMP able to be stationed overseas?

A: Overseas assignments for all service members and their dependants require screening.  If sufficient care is determined as not available, EFMP will work to ensure a duty location where both career and EFM needs are met.
 

Q: Does the EFMP provide relocation support?

A: Your EFMP Case Worker at both the losing and gaining installation will assist in the transition of medical and educational care.  Ask your local EFMP office for a PCS Needs Assessment sheet upon receipt of orders.

Q: How can EFMP help my Exceptional Family Member with Individual Education Plan (IEP)?

A: Your Case worker will assist you with issues ranging from school services, access to therapies, related resources and provide workshops to help families learn to be their family  member’s  best advocate.

Q: I am part of the EFMP.  Do I rate priority housing?

A: Priority housing for USMC enrolled families is now determined by the HQMC EFMP office via the medical screening team.
